No need to shout. I already considered if narrowing the user base may be
a target of development. 

Anyway, I would not update by merely those 8 (or 9) steps you mention.
I'd recommend backing up the productive site and cloning it first, than
updating and testing the cloned installation, backing it up if
functional and exchanging it for the old one, and if it is running, back
up the updated new version.
