[TYPO3-english] error: folder variants does not exist

Thanks Ian, this was it. Because the bootstrap package had a file mount 
called variants and I didn't have that folder at all, the error 
occurred. Of course it is a bit strange it appears in this situation: 
saving a link or anything in the root page.
