Loek, I did some benchies on your script. I use it to load a large bg 
image on the body tag. Congratz ;-) your script is about 100 to 150ms 
faster each page refresh compared to the inline typoscript solution. So 
I gonna tweak it a bit and use it, thanks!

A JS only solution without Ajax or PHP for random images, is not very 
flexible, client sided javascript cannot read out how many image files 
there are, and probably you have to use fixed names like bg_X.jpg to 
X-loop the images.
