[TYPO3-english] Editor gets errormessage trying to edit CE (but only with edit-icon)

Just stumbled upon strange behavior:
an non-admin editor (no problems for admins) wants to edit a tt_content 
CE and gets en error:

"Sorry, you didn't have proper permissions to perform this change."

this only happens if he clicks on the edit-icon of languages page-view.
selecting edit from contextmenu works without error.
also clicking the edit-icon in columns-view gives no error

what is the difference?

the system:
TYPO3 6.1.10
gridelements 2.1.1 (also 2.0.3)

any hints or existing bug reports?
