Yes, you could use the task center for this.

However, you still need to add two fields to the pages table:
* the last check time
* the check intervall

Actually, with those two fields, you could use a predefined SQL statement 
(DB Tools) to create a corresponding task that shows the list of pages to 
work on.
Edit icons are included in this case.

AFAIK you can not enter free hand queries in the DB tools. Maybe you can do 
so by editing the DB directly.

On the other hand, it should not be that difficult to create a basic listing 
inside an own module.
