The install tool has several upgrade wizards, which should work you trough 
the upgrade process.

But please keep in mind, that only one major version jump is tested, thus 
you might run into trouble - keep your backups near you.
You jump like ten major versions.

I suggest to you to make an intermediate step at 4.5 at least. This should 
work and then go to 6.1-dev (or beta2; includes more fixes).
