[TYPO3-english] Best way to set storagePid for foreign tables

You might want to have a look at the categories selection in the "locator"  
extension.

I really don't like it's approach much though. They render their own  
treeselector and emulate a frontend and have a TS configuration that can  
override where categories can be found.
