I had this exact conversation with Claus Due (Author of FED), we basically
agreed that a "cutting tool" similar to TemplaVoila for Fluid templates
would make a hell of a BE module. If the HTML template containers were all
ID mapped, a simple version (That does not have the relative mapping of
TV) could be pushed out quite quickly by someone who knows how to code T3
BE modules.
The mode of operation would basically be to upload a HTML file, then
point&click containers and mark them as Sections or Partials, name them,
and then the relevant files would be cached out. You could then edit these
files manually, or if the "Cutter" was flexible enough, you'd specify all
your desired options there during "Cutting time" (Like you do currently in
TV when mapping, you can do 90% of tasks, but sometimes you need to edit
the XML).
As with TV, a "If you decide to remap this, changes will be lost" warning
would do in the short term.
Now, Claus is a busy man, but he was enthusiastic about this. How would it
be best to push it into the hands of people with the time and expertise
necessary to create it?
I've used TV for years and it seems to me to be more stable than
GridElements (By quite a long margin right now), but some of the
flexibility afforded by FLUID is really great in situations where you end
up thinking "How the hell do I do this in TV??" For me, I can see TV with
Fluid CE's being a workable development path.
That cutting tool would be hella useful, though :)
