[TYPO3-english] how to use git

Hi,

Now more and more of the extensions request/suggest to use the git version. Importing from ter is easy, but is there a way to import as a package from git or do I have to download and upload the files separately with ftp? I guess somewhere there is a info page how to use TYPO3 git (haven't found it), anyone care to send a link? Thank you :)
