[TYPO3-english] RTE does not insert soft-hyphens

using TYPO3 4.7.5 and so rteHTMLArea 4.7.5
I would like to enable editors to use softhyphenation and enabled the 
button 'insertsofthyphen' in pageTS with

RTE.default.showButtons := addToList(insertsofthyphen)

and so the button is shown in the BE, and using the cursor I see that an 
invisible character is inserted.

But toggling into text mode the char is removed, the same with storing 
the CE. So the soft-hyphenation does not reach the FE.

Anything I have missed?
