there is an older document [1] explaining the whole multi language 
stuff. Does anybody know if there is a new version of it or something 
similar? Anyway, some of it is outdated, but most should still be 
applicable to 6.0.

Looking through it, the following parts you will most likely need:
Setting up languages
Translation of pages
TypoScript configuration
Language Selector Menu
Localized content (the parts about how to translate content elements)

Also, if you have the chance, try the introduction package of 6.0.
It is configured for two languages and in the same way as explained in 
document above. So you could use the IP as a kind of 'How it should look 
like in the end' example.
