[TYPO3-english] where do i assign Templatevoila default template ?

Hi all,.
I am trying to set a default template for mi site , but although i have set
the templates for the subpages at my root page, somehow is not inherit by
the new pages i create, nor do the images get set for the default icon
So when with the wizard i create a new page but i get no image for the
default
