[TYPO3-english] used vs. non-used elements

Hello,

can anyone please explain what is the difference between "used" and 
"non-used" elements in the terms of database record?

I am trying to distinguish the two, but cannot find the difference. I 
was looking into "tt_content" and "sys_refindex" tables so far.

The trouble I have, is whenever I create a New Content using "List" 
module or using a "FrontEnd Editing" option, the new content falls out 
of my TV box, and lands to the "non-used" elements on a page. So I am 
trying to understand this and find a solution to it. (Currently I can 
only add a content using a BE "Page TV" module.)

Does anyone have a solution to it or can point me to the right direction?
