Hi Frank
two years ago I just made a +ext (key registered but never released),  
to do this:
* people register using i.e. sr_feuserregister; they communicate the  
preferences (i.e. dogs, cats, etc.)
* you can use data to send them a newsletter through direct mail
* from BE you can select to send mass SMS selecting the preferences

I'm looking for people to reopen the project in TYPO3 community then,  
if you are a programmer, you are invited to collaborate.
