[TYPO3-english] new feuser registration extension?

hi,

if i remember correctly, some time ago i read something about plans for a
completely new feuser registration extension. as an alternative for
sr_feuser_register which is kind of cumbersome to use for many tasks.

did this really happen? is it useable already? where can i find it?

another question...
what's the recommended extension for handling newsletter subscriptions? they
also all seem to have some weaknesses, like no easy possibility to
unsubscribe.
