[TYPO3-english] l10nmgr, error Detected invalid characters in element when there is an exteral link in tt_news

I know this post is quite old, but just to mention: I've just 
experienced the same error.
RTE-content with an a-tag and attribute external="1" causes export to 
skip that item (message is "Detected invalid characters in element").
This is not caused by external="1" but by <![CDATA[<link 
http://www.example.com>www.example.com</link><br />]]> which is inserted 
when checking "do not check xml". So the link-tag is the problem.
Couldn't find a solution yet...
