Really strange...

Please try this version of DBAL:
http://xavier.perseguers.ch/fileadmin/download/typo3/dbal_1-0-dev.t3x

Install it as any other extension, it should be located in 
typo3conf/ext/dbal to override the system extension.

Side note: be sure not to forget to remove this version whenever you 
update your TYPO3 install...
