you may copy a site, but only on identical servers.

the preferred way is export and import as this handles references like 
uid-conflicts (and resulting uid-changes) and filereferences to tmp-files.
a further advantage may be the copy of used files and ignorance of unused 
files.
keep watch to export all neccessary tables and all records (not only 1000)

be aware of different configuration between servers like database-name 
and -accounts, unique 'Encryption key' and different pathes for e.g. IM.
