The description of the problem is not a good one. "Can't get it work" says nothing and cannot be fixed.

If you get 404 errors it means that you have problem with mod_rewrite. It is definitely not RealURL problem.

The above one is totally wrong. I suggest you read docs before trying to do anything. This is a friendly advice, not an attempt to offend you. It looks like you do not know what you are doing. Sorry but it is true.
