[TYPO3-english] replace image with an icon?

hi,

i have a page where someone wants to show excel graphs (saved as
pngs). those graphs are really ugly and don't fit to the graphics
design of the page. :)

so my idea was to replace the small version of the images with some
general graph icon and the real graph only gets visible if you click
on them (lightbox or the normal pop-up window).

is it possible with typoscript to replace the thumbnails of content
element images with a different image? or does someone have a better
idea how to solve this?
