This is not an answer to the popup thing but have you tried the List 
module; choose clipboard #1 or bigger and then you get the select boxes 
in the list. You can choose many CE's and delete them simultaneously.

There is (at least was) a really great video of List module 
possibilities. It's a powerful module, but yet so humble ;)
