[TYPO3-english] Bad internal link generation

Hi everybody.
When I make a link to an internal page using the "Insert Web Link" 
button in the Rich Text Editor it generates links in the form

href="http://example.org/typo3/http://example.org/?id=123"

and if I follow such a link it brings up an error page which states

Error!
Reason: "/http://mlmi.org/" could not be found, closest page matching is /

I've been inserting links and then switching to html view to remove 
"http://example.org/typo3/http://" all morning. If anyone knows what 
might cause this problem I would love to hear it.
