This is not correct. There is a connection between DAM and htlmArea, but 
it's not hardcoded.

The connection is made to give the possibility to have a reference 
between DAM and a inserted image in the RTE.

If you uncheck media tag and htmlArea RTE integration in Ext Manager, 
DAM, DAM works like it should together with tinymce_rte (tested at this 
moment).

It shouldn't be any problem giving the same functionality with tinymce_rte.

NB! I suppose you have to use DAM 1.1.1
