If you select a swf file in the multimedia element,you'll get the
following HTML:
<embed src="uploads/media/yourfile.swf" quality="high"></embed>

This should work in case the swf file is correct, which can be tested by
calling it directly in your browser.

To reproduce if the update to 4.2.2 is the source of your problem, try
to create a new content element with the working file:
uploads/media/comments_demo2b_skin.swf
