[TYPO3-english] tt_news search by date

Hi list !
I'm having problems using tt_news hooks... let's say I understand nothing at
all, it would be more accurate.
I want to make a search by date in my news and for this i know i can use
hooks like additionalFormSearchFields and searchwhere.
My questions are numerous, and the first ones are :
Where am I supposed to write my functions, i know it's in a class, but do I
write this class in a new extension or can I just make a new file in tt_news
?
And what to write in them ?!! I've found a german forum talking about it,
but, as a newbie and not talking very well german, it's as if I had found a
chinese manuscript.
I don't even show you what i've already done, you'd have an heart attack.
So if someone was so kind to take time and explain it clearly it would be
very great !
