To access backend modules you need a backend user, so i suggest to 
create frontend users for each imported user and additionally a backend 
user for each user who needs to access a specific module

Extending fe_users table with more fields is easy.
Use the kickstarter to create a new extension and take a look at "Extend 
existing Tables".
