[TYPO3] cooluri problem with simple xml

Hi all

After checking the multisite flag in the latest cooluri (1.0.11), I get
the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function dom_import_simplexml() in
/var/www/project/typo3conf/ext/cooluri/class.tx_cooluri.php on line 83

But only if I call http://project.tld. If I call
http://project.tld/index.php it works and the page is shown?

Could anybody give me a hint on what is wrong here?
