The list of countries is taken from table static_countries. This
contains the country names only in English and in the country's own
language (like for example "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" for Germany).
There are extensions that add localisation to static tables (e.g.
static_info_tables_de for German) and I think your countries should then
appear in the proper language (although I have never tried it myself).
However such a language pack for Japanese doesn't exist :-(
