[TYPO3] Ajax and frontend extension

Hi, has anyone had experience with integrating Ajax with frontend 
extensions? Basically I have an extension that works via form post but I 
was wondering if there is any way of capturing the post before it 
happens and send it via XMLHTTPRequest... preferably using the same 
extension code. Any guidance or pointers to good resources would be much 
appreciated.
