[TYPO3] Error in tt_news when upgrading from 2.4 to 2.5

I tried to upgrade tt_news 2.4 to 2.5 so that I could upgrade Typo3 from 
4.0.5 to 4.1.4 but this caused the site to blank. Turned error messages 
on and get the following:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: extraitemmarkerprocessor() in 
[PATH]/dummy-4.0.5/typo3conf/ext/tt_news/pi/class.tx_ttnews.php on line 1706

Lines 1699 to 1706 are:

if ($pagecount > 1) {
            // configure pagebrowser vars
            $this->internal['res_count'] = $pagecount;
            $this->internal['results_at_a_time'] = 1;
            $this->internal['maxPages'] = 
$this->conf['pageBrowser.']['maxPages'];
            if (!$this->conf['pageBrowser.']['showPBrowserText']) {
                
$this->LOCAL_LANG[$this->LLkey]['pi_list_browseresults_page'] = '';
            }

Any ideas what is causing this error?
