[TYPO3-english] Alert icon to menu

What is your suggestion how to solve that:

One of our menu points is Events, and sometimes there is a change in the
event, so that we need to get this displayed "stronger".

I am inspired from the Taiwan weather web site, where a red alert icon
appears in the menu - an change the text color to red, if a typhoon in
coming closer.

The challenge is, that the user need to  set this alert or reset, if needed.

Any ideas?
