True indeed if all you want is to insert the JS at the bottom of your 
page. The idea of at least some of the extensions is to provied much 
more than that, for example post-postprocessing the typolinks to insert 
tracking codes in there too for tracking external links or file downloads.

There's much more than the Google Analytics API provides and which can 
not always be achieved just by TS.

So yes, the pure TS approach is certainly nicer, but is not always 
enough. Hence extensions :-)
