[TYPO3] make fe user username and login case insensitive

hi,
i need to make the login and username for front end users to be case
insensitive.

i searched the forums and see this entry but not sure that this world
work. I was wondering if anyone has tried to do this and if so, how it
was done.

in extTables.php
