[TYPO3] How to connect to TYPO3 when client is behind a proxy?

Please specify the setup.

a) client systems -> forward proxy -> internet -> server
b) client systems -> internet -> reverse proxy -> server

Why not? It is always a proxy or firewall problem in my experience.
