I had this same problem on v1.7.0

The problem arose for me because the document root ended with the domain name of the site ie:

/hsphere/local/home/reseller/domain.com

The period is causing problems - so adding an extra level eg

/hsphere/local/home/reseller/domain.com/fileadmin

Fixed it for now.
