[TYPO3] multiple URLs per page in RealURL - how to fix?

Hey everybody...
RealURL question here. My current configuration is producing multiple
URLs for the same page -- say for instance I have an "About Us" page,
and inside that is a page called "History". The History page is
accessible via 2 different URLs:
/about-us/history/
/about-us/history.html
My understanding is that this is bad for SEO -- Google likes it better
when every page has one definitive address. So I'm trying to figure out
how to reconfigure RealURL so it only produces one URL, in the format
/about-us/history.html.
From reading the famously indecipherable RealURL docs, I _thought_ this
would be accomplished if I set init.appendMissingSlash = 'ifNotFile' and
filename.defaultToHTMLsuffixOnPrev = '1'. But that doesn't do it.
How would I go about reconfiguring RealURL to make it behave in this
way? Any help would be appreciated...
