[TYPO3] basic problem with multiple languages

Hello,
I need to create a multilingual site (say: de, en, es, fr, pl, ru) and
I would like to do it in typo3.
Having unzipped typo3 v. 4.1 src+dummy and installed via 1-2-3, I
switch to back-end and try to create the languages: page|new|website
language. There, according to the tutorials, I am supposed to choose
the (1) language name, (2) flag and (3) ISO code.
The problem is: I have _no_ ISO Code field. Why?
Trying to create languages without ISO code is useless -- cannot see
the translated pages.
If I start with the Christmas-tutorial version (the one from Casper
podcast), the ISO Code field is present, though there are some other
problems with TemplaVoila, so I cannot use it anyway...
I am not good enough to compare christmas vs. dummy versions to see
the difference.
What do I miss or what should I do? Please, help!
