[TYPO3] how to test for condition of URL link

I wonder how to test for the condition that a specific menu link
is a URL type. 

I have a routine that replaces the usual menu link-to-a-URL with
the actual URL, but it only works if all menu items are URL menu
items so I need to test first for that condition.
