[TYPO3] 4.0.3 to 4.1 upgrade problems

I just upgraded from 4.0.3 to 4.1 but the AJax page and file tree  
isn't working.  The backend is functioning just as it did in 4.0.3 is  
there a setting or something I missed during the upgrade that would  
enable or disable this functionality?

I followed a very basic process.
1) rm typo3_src; ln -s ../typo3/typo3_src-4.1 typo3_src
2) Log into T3 Install tool, run the Update Wizard
3) Run the Database Compare and Import
4) Cleared all the caches

The AJax stuff does work on a test instance of T3 I've got running  
but that's a fresh install.
