[TYPO3] Google sitemap problem

The sitemap extension works fine except the entry level page is 
is displayed as;

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> 
- <urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
- <url>
  <loc>http://www.smartstage.com/Welcome-to-Smartstage-America.437.0.html</loc> 
  <lastmod>2007-03-02T16:08:14Z</lastmod> 

When in fact the entry level page is simply http://smartstage.com/

Is there a way to correct the first entry in the xml?
