[TYPO3] Best Practice with GoogleSitemaps and RealURL?

The existing mc_googlesitemaps extension is fine. But Google requires the
sitemap to be on the root level of the website. They will only use URLs in
the sitemap which are on the same directory level as the sitemap itself or
below the sitemap.
If realURL is enabled you always get some directory inserted except if you
are on the root page - but you can't use that page. You can use a page just
below the root page but it will have the extension .html only and you
clutter up your page tree assuming you have a couple of sitemaps to generate
Is there any idea how to do the trick without "dirty" apache rewrites?
