[TYPO3] menu/sitemap opens a new window

hmmmm... i put that line

tt_content.menu.20.2.1.target =

into the constants for the template and it does not make the links not 
open new window. I ned for the generated menu to link to _self or _top, etc.

I looked thru the constant editor, and closest thing I can see is
Target for external links
which is
styles.content.links.extTarget
but changing that to _top does not fix the issue.

???!


As always, it is one simple thing which I do not know and cant seem to 
find. oh well...
