Simple pop-ups are blocked at my browser and I think most anti-ad-
ware programs
will block them aswell. I think peters method is accessible enough
for most, if not all people.
Also, please note, accessible doesn't mean that you cannot use
javascript at all!
And blind people that use screen readers cannot see the image anyways,
for the web developer he needs to make sure the image is big enough
for people
that cannot see well, and by making it bigger it will be accessible
again..
