Hey Corrado,
Possible quite a number of people would not understand how and what diff
exactly is,
also quite a number of people don't even have shell access. So the majority
will not use them. Also now days bandwidth is not such a big ussue
anymore as 10 years ago and even here in EC I have a 382Kbs connection
on which I can download typo3 in a reasonable amount of time.
For plain simple diff's I don't think it's a good idea...
However, the above doesn't mean we can't make it simpler!!!
For example SugerCRM provides in the backend a update wizard.
The update wizards detects the current version of the running installation,
and checks for patches on a remote server.
If a patch is available then he can download it, test it.. and if all is
ok he will apply the
patch. All from the BE, quite nice actually...
It could even be used as a patch system for extensions instead of core
code only.
Now THAT might be something for 'Google Summer of Code'.
We see quite a lot of questions on #typo3 if it's save to upgrade, how
to upgrade,
etc.
Such a system could be used for example with the latest patch because of
the RTE.
Possible it's was a one liner of code, but people code confused by
versions etc etc etc..
(I simply didn't upgrade FF.....)
