[TYPO3] slow 404 redirect realurl

Hey

The redirect from a 404 i very slow - and I mean very slow.
I've set the [FE][pageNotFound_handling] = / (also tried: http://my-domain/)

I've included the following in .htaccess:
ErrorDocument 404 http://my-domain/index.php
ErrorDocument 500 http://my-domain/index.php

It's a small site, so I don't want a dedicated 404-page, but prefer to 
redirect 404's to the front page.

Anyone with a suggestion?
