[TYPO3] exluding the first level from the menu

What? Sorry, but that just show that you perhaps didn't look at the 
section on menus very carefully.

Look under tmenuitem - they have been there for a long time.

FYI

To build menus use the properties in TSref under HMENU, and all then teh 
specific type of menus properties and then there menuitem properties. 
(GMENU -> GMENU_LAYERS,  TMENU -> TMENUITEM, IMGMENU -> IMGMENUITEM, 
JMENU ->JMENUITEM)
