[TYPO3] combined horizontal and vertical menu

Hi,

i would like to make my menu in such a way that the first subitems are 
displayed horizontal on the top, and the next submenu items sorted on 
the left in a vertical way..

i am rebuilding our old site in typo 3 with a new layout, but keeping 
the old menu system, you can visit the old site from the link in my 
signature. Typo3.org uses it in the same way i think..

but how do i do this?
