[TYPO3] replacing ###SOMETEXT### with something else - how?

I want to define a marker, ###SOMETEXT###, which I can put anywhere in 
Web->page in TYPO3 backend, and it will be replaced with the actual text 
defined in a template.

I believe I did that before with something like:

constants.SOMETEXT = Some long text or HTML...

in the setup part of the template.

However, this doesn't seem to work anymore (it's a new installation).

Can anyone remind me how to do it?
