[TYPO3] Indexed search not indexing

Hi,

i have a problem with the indexed search. The installation is at typo3 4.0 but 
was emerged as Typo3 3.8.1 some time ago.

I set page.config.index_enable = 1. With 3.8.1 there was an index. After 
upgrade i updated reference table, dropped index_* tables, reinstalled 
indexsearch (recreated tables) and reimported the static data using 
installtool to get it run. But all these steps, i found using google, didnt 
solve the problem. I am lost. Can you please give me some hints what i am 
missing?

I use the crawler extension and it is working properly (at least i guess so, 
as it works on the crawler queue and takes some time to run). But there is 
nothing written into the index_* tables.
