typo3 *doesn't destroy* the existing info.
"Show content from this page instead" still exists.

It seems that Typo3 automatic use that info if related field
is not empty. Is this a bug or feature - well depends on
who answer.
Maybe it would be reasonable to add extra check, when
only if the page type is 'advanced', that info will be used.
You may make this a bug report, but as I wrote, it is not
necessarily a bug but just a feature.
